Archive for January, 2009

Hi everyone!

My assistant Angela just took off for 2 weeks in Hawaii!!!! I told her to enjoy her self, but not TOO much, I want her to come back!!! ; )

Next weekend, Feb. 6-8 I’ll be speaking at Larry Loik’s “War On Debt” – if you’re in the Los Angeles, CA area you should check it out and get registered here.

One thing I’ve been doing when I go on the road to speak that has been working well is to meet with clients and students for private sessions. If you think you can benefit from a private session  with a Master Hypnotist, I’d say you’re right!

If you’re in the Los Angeles , CA area or can be Feb, 6-8, give me a call at 888-321-3684 or send me an email and schedule an appointment.  I’d have you send it to my assistant but she’s in HAWAII!!!

Wanna have a rockin’ 2009???

Then call or email me right away for an appointment because I only have time for a few sessions and they normally go quickly once word gets out.

Doug

So have you delved into the world of WordPress? It’s a pretty cool piece of software and by the looks of things, a lot of people are using it these days as the basis of their entire website. As I’ve gotten more acquainted with it, I discovered that there are “plug-ins” that allow WordPress to do some even more cool stuff, so of course I started adding.

That’s when the fun began!

Turns out most/many WordPress plug-ins want to see something called PHP5 running on your web hosting server. Fair enough, but it turns out my host and many others default to PHP4.  I called and asked my host to turn on 5, and found out, it’s not quite that simple!

Why was I surprised ? ; )

Thus I learned all about something that I should probably never taken the time to learn about, yet now that I do, I feel strangely like I’ve got one over on my computer, for once!!!! There’s a file in some website directories called the .htaccess file and to solve the problem, I needed to create one for my website and add one line of code to it. Voila! My website now runs PHP5!

In case you’re an uber geek and want to know what I did, here’s the explanation that I found:

**************************************

“By default Apache uses PHP 4 for .php extension. If you don’t want to rename all your scripts to .php5 you can do the following:
Create a .htaccess file and place the following line AddType x-mapp-php5 .php in it. This will tell Apache to use PHP 5 instead of PHP 4 for the extension .php in the directory the .htaccess is placed and all sub-directories under it.

*************************************

Now that I’m on a roll, I went ahead and upgraded WordPress to the latest version as well. I have to hand it to the WordPress folks, if you know how to access your web server using FTP, their directions to install and upgrade WordPress are very easy to follow! I did it without a hitch!!!

Kudos to the WordPress community!

Would You Pass a Car with This License Plate?

I get asked so often, what is hypnosis? I saw a great video describing hypnosis today that I thought I’d share with you all. More on this topic coming soon!!

Just got back to New Mexico, and I had a GREAT trip.

First, stopped by Tampa, Fl and dropped in on the Speaker make-over workshop given by my good friends AJ Puedan, Dave Vanhoose and Dustin Matthews. While there I did some hypnosis sessions for some good friends and fellow speakers, hear what Edwin Kelly of Cleveland, OH had to say about experiencing a hypnosis session with Doug Ottersberg:

On the way to the Investor Palooza in Charlotte, NC hosted by my good friend Larry Goins and his incredible team, I met JoAnne Murphy. (She sat next to me on the plane) Please join me in a prayer for her, her family and most of all for her son Kevin. JoAnne, you and Kevin are being healed even now. I was able to assist her to relax and let go of some stress and anger. Of course hypnosis works on planes!

While at Investor Palooza, I was amazed at the quality of education offered, and the number of excited investors in attendance. It was great to see my friends Terry Hale and his wife Lisa (Commercial Real Estate), Scott Meyer (Self Storage), Adam Ginsberg and Michael Bromley (Ebay and Internet Marketing)

Yes, I did some hypnosis sessions for some folks that came especially for that reason, as well as a few folks that had no idea what the weekend would hold in store for them.

Listen to what Don, the winner of a free hypnosis session had to say:

His was very excited about winning the session, and he shared with me his concerns and doubts about his ability to be hypnotized and to relax. As you can tell if he relaxed any more, he’d fall off the couch!

I am in Tampa today and tomorrow morning…and I’m surrounded by some incredibly talented speakers and trainers! The energy level is amazing and the spirit of sharing is alive and well!!!

The best thing you can do for yourself is to make sure you align yourself with a group of like minded individuals, surround yourself with them and GET ACTIVE!!!

Take action today, find your allies, make something happen and remember to be humble….check your ego and that part of you that says “I know that” at the door

Today I met a man who is in a business that I’ve been in for the last 15 years…(Mobile Home Parks)…he’s just been at it a LOT longer than I have.  While he runs his business ALOT differently than I do, what he does accomplishes several things:

1. It works for his local market conditions

2. It serves his needs because he BUILT it to serve his needs!

Rather than dismiss what he’s doing as “wrong”, I chose to learn how to look at different possibilities and why he’s doing what he’s doing. As a result, I got to see how a successful business adapts to survive and thrive!

Whenever you catch yourself thinking or saying, “well that’s not how I do things”, stop!

You may just be wasting a great opportunity to learn something.

For me it’s “stuff”.

Some stuff can be distracting. As I look around my office I see that I have many things that have the ability to distract me. Lot’s of books, notebooks, do-dads and gadgets. Great ideas that started yet another unfinished project and causing an open loop that must be closed to free up the energy waiting to finish it to work on something else.

Another thing that can be very distracting is technology. For example, this blog. It uses some great software called WordPress. There’s another piece of software called a plugin that i want to use to post my blog posts on my Facebook page. But it needs PHP 5 and my hosting package defaults to PHP4 and there is work to be done tell it to use PHP5. Work I have no desire to learn how to do and work I must wait on others to do for me.

I find that distracting!

Where do you draw the line between the things you keep around to inspire and motivate you, and things that may distract you?

What’s your solution?

Say what??????

Turns out this lovely word is the fear of long words. Really…

How appropriate that I hear this word for the first time today when the legislature of the Great State of New Mexico started their 2009 session today. It’s also the same day that happened to be jam packed with loquacious gasbag talking heads filling the air with wall to wall coverage of the Presidential transfer of power and swearing in. Newscasters never cease to amaze me, they can say so much about absolutely nothing.

hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia

Now let’s come up with a word for fear of loquacious gasbag talking heads.

Present writer excluded of course!!!!

Recently, coming home from our family end of the year holiday in Mexico, upon entering the border town of Nogales, Sonora, a traffic policeman gave us directions to follow a specific route to one of three border crossings. As I did, my wife urged me to go the way that she wanted to go (the way the officer had prevented us from going) Being the good husband, even though I felt like we should be doing as instructed, I managed to find a way to get back on my wife’s preferred route.

Then the fun started.

The line to get across the Mexican border is never a picnic, and during the New Years holiday, it’s even worse.   We sat in a line for over 40 minutes, only to be told to go back to the end of the line by a surly, pompous ass of a police officer because we were in the wrong lane. Never mind there had been NO signs to indicate such. He threatened to take our license plates off, and started calling on the radio. Because officials with guns operate a whole lot differently down there, and not wanting to end up as the back story for a new Quentin Tarantino movie, I unwillingly complied.

Even with all my training and hypnotic skill, I must admit, I blew it. Literally. I blew my stack!!!! I swore and uttered an oath to NEVER drive a vehicle across the border again. Guess I’ll have to work on getting my pilot’s license and a plane to go with it!!! <G>

So now I go back the way we were ORIGINALLY told to go, and waited for over an hour and a half. When we finally made it across the border, we went for some gas and then stopped in at a Jack in the Box for some good ole American junk food. My wife Ana struck up a conversation with a few of the other restaurant patrons and found that they had waited, respectively, 4 and 7.5 hours!!! Amazing!

It wasn’t until then I realized that God, Spirit, the universe, whatever you prefer to call it, really does work in what we can perceive as “strange” ways.  Even a surly, pompous ass of a police officer can be an “instrument” for our own good. Even with the drama, we still crossed in less than 2 hours, while it took up to 7 hours for others!

So even if things are looking “bad”, and you’re “resisting what is”, remember, you never know what the universe has in store, so release the resistance and go with it. You’ll feel a LOT better!

I promise.
